How to Form Simple Past Tense
There are two types of verbs in English:

These verbs add “-ed” to show the past tense.

When Do We Use Simple Past Tense?
We use it when we talk about:
Completed actions in the past
→ She watched a movie yesterday.A past habit or routine
→ He always walked to school.A series of actions in the past
→ He entered the room, switched on the light, and sat down.
Time Words Used with Simple Past
These small words help us know that the action happened in the past:
yesterday
last night
last week
last year
ago (two days ago, a month ago)
in 2010
once upon a time
Example:
I met him two days ago.
She worked hard last year.

Try to change these sentences into Simple Past Tense:
I eat breakfast at 8 a.m. → I ate breakfast at 8 a.m.
They go to school every day. → They went to school every day.
She plays the piano. → She played the piano.

A Simple Trick to Remember
If the action is over, use the Simple Past Tense.
